In 1982, the New Yorker Matthew Reich engaged brewing consultant Joe Owades to help him create a new amber beer. They had it contract brewed at F.X. Matt until Reich had raised money to establish his small New Amsterdam brewery and taproom in Chelsea, lower Manhatten. The brewery didn’t last for long though. New Amsterdam is now a virtual brewery still having its amber beer brewed under licence at F.X. Matt Brewing but with different ownership.

    Very nice amber, a little hazy, good head. More hop aroma than Pacific Coast Blue Whale! A hop bomb, but 1) it really doesn't show up until the end, and 2) it fades fast! This stuff is going to have an amazing belch. Good beer.
