Historical notes from Jacob Sjúrður Hansen:
In 2002 the world’s biggest brewing group, Brasilian-Belgian InBev, established a brewery in Quetzaltenango under the name Cervecería Rio breaking more than a 100 years of monoply by CCA. The brewery's beer "Brahva" has taken a lot of market shares from from CCA's (Cervecería Centro Americana) "Gallo" beer.Cervecería Rio started exporting "Brahva" beer to El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica in 2005 and it is the goal to gain a 25% market share (currently 13%) in Central America.
