    Awards:
    • Date: February 26, 2008 (#6908)
      Package: draught
      Place: at the brewery
      Score: 17 points
      Appearance (3)
Bright deep golden. Huge dense head.
      Aroma (3)
Quite clean, with just a hint of hops.
      Mouthfeel (9)
Medium body, fizzy. Big noble hop flavor and bitterness up front, with a nice grainy-sweet maltiness. Bitterness lingers long after the beer is gone.

    8.50% abv.
    • Date: February 26, 2008 (#6911)
      Package: draught
      Place: at the brewery
      Score: 18 points
      Appearance (3)
Golden, with the slightest haze. Big thick head.
      Aroma (3)
      Mild sweet, grainy malt.
      Mouthfeel (9)
Medium-big body, surprisingly fizzy. Big chewy maltiness, with a clean, sweet flavor. Maybe a bit warming, but there's dangerously little alcohol character here.
      Overall Impression (3)
If it's really 8.5% abv, it's a tremendously subtle beer that demands caution in its enjoyment.

    European-Style Dark/Münchner Dunkel
    5.60% abv.
    • Date: February 26, 2008 (#6912)
      Package: bottled
      Place: at the brewery
      Score: 18 points
      Appearance (3)
Deep brown, hazy. Massive dense head.
      Aroma (3)
Very very mildly roasty and sweet.
      Mouthfeel (9)
Medium body, moderate carbonation. Tremendously earthy, with a dark chocolate undertone. Quite dry. Quite smoky. Quite unlike any Dunkles Lager I've tasted.
      Overall Impression (3)
Just when I thought all of their beers were golden, she brings this one, brewed for their 175th anniversary.

  • European-Style Low-Alcohol Lager / German-Style Leicht(bier)
    2.90% abv.
    • Date: February 26, 2008 (#6907)

      Place: at the brewery
      Score: 15½ points
      Appearance (3)
      Bright golden. Thick head.
      Aroma (3)
      Mild noble hops, mild grain.
      Mouthfeel (8)
Medium body, not "leicht" at all. Sweetly malty and a bit grainy, with a touch of diacetyl. Mild noble hop flavor, mild bitterness.
      Overall Impression (1½)
      "40% less alcohol and calories."
