Pumphouse owner Mark Schmitz opened Moosejaw in 2002 as Wisconsin's largest brewpub. It's actually on the south side of the town of Lake Delton, on Highway 12 at Judson Street, just east of where Wisconsin Dells Parkway turns north. (That may sound confusing, but then this was my first visit to the Dells.) Inside and out, it looks like a big northwoods lodge. Six bucks will get you generous samples of their ten beers. For dinner, they've got the usual appetizers ($5-$8), burgers - including elk - for $6-$9, a couple of pasta dishes ($9-$11), lots of pizza options ($5.50-$18), a couple of entrees - try the pork chop stuffed with garlic - for $14-$18, and desserts ($3-$7). Good food, good beers, good prices, and good people make Moosejaw worth a stop.

Dark dark brown, thick head. Smoky, toasty malt aroma. Medium creamy body. Rich chocolate flavor with lots of coffee notes. Sweet maltiness underlies the whole thing.
