Very red with a reasonable head, clear, darker than I'd expect. Lots of caramel aroma. If I didn't know better, I'd call it a Brown. Thick, bitter. Finishes pretty clean. Good caramel flavors too.

      Place: at the brewery

A shade darker than Oktoberfest. Some fruit aroma, some hops. Berry? Very subtle. Really doesn't show up until the finish, and even then you wouldn't notice it if you weren't looking for it.

  • Golden or Blonde Ale
    • Date: September 9, 1993 (#280)
      Package: draught
      Place: at the brewery
      Score: 17½ points
      Overall Impression (3)
Very nice golden color, thin head, clear. Some hop aroma, but certainly not as much as they claim. More malt, I'd say...albeit a bit faint. Malty flavor. (Munich?) Good carbonation bite without being fizzy. Slightly sweet but not cloying at all. Mike's favorite. Rockies makes a beer of the same name...are they related?

  • Sweet Stout or Cream Stout
    • Date: September 9, 1993 (#285)
      Package: draught
      Place: at the brewery
      Score: 12 points
      Overall Impression (2½)
Black opaque, head OK. Some alcohol scent behind the roast. Not burnt at all. Thick and smooth. Bitter, but not a "big" taste. Lacking all around (except body).
    • Date: September 9, 1993 (#288)
      Package: real ale
      Place: at the brewery
      Score: 14½ points
      Overall Impression (3)
Black, more opaque. Big bubbles in head...fading more slowly. Earthy aroma. Still not burnt, but closer. Almost chewy. Chocolate flavors, some burnt character but still not enough.
