This was once named the Sól-Víking brewery. Vífilfelli was started as a soft drink company in Reykjavík back in 1942. In 1997 Víking Brugg merged with the Sól soft drink company in Akureyri to form Sól-Víking. In 2001 Sól-Víking brewing company merged with the soft drink company Vífilfelli, changing name to Vífilfells. Brewing is now done mainly in Akureyri but also in Reykjavík where the head quarter is.
