Dark brown opaque. Not much head. Roasty aroma. Burnt flavor. No hint of alcohol. I'd call it a Porter if it were an ale... -

DARK brown. CHOCOLATE. Fine body and head...Very nice indeed. -

Closer to a Porter than a Doppelbock. Don claims it's 10%, which is a surprise. It's a good Porter (with lager yeast). (Note on 3/23/98: Jeez...transcribing these notes five years later graphically illustrates the learning curve!)

Yellow opaque, big white head. Spicy, yeasty aroma. Good body, big carbonation bite. Smoky and fairly bitter. Vague hints of clove and banana. Finishes pretty clean. Here are some excerpts from the label: "Premium lager" (authentic Bavarian Hefeweizens are ales). "Malted barley, hops, yeast, water" (in general, wheat beers are expected to contain some wheat). "Unfiltered Bavarian style wheat beer" (OK, it is actually unfiltered). -

Yellow opaque, OK head. Bacon aroma?!? Big clove flavor, and some fried bacon! Not bad, but weird… -

Hazy yellow, high carbonation. Translucent, not opaque. Rubbery, chlorophenolic aroma, with rotten fruit. Not quite rancid. Body, head, carb OK. Maybe a bad batch. Served with lemon...bah! -

Hazy yellow. Huge head. Spicy nose. Very spicy flavor. Cloves, no bananas at all. Excellent body. Perfect example of style.
