Brewery first opened in 1896 as Capital Brewing Co. Name changed to Olympia Brewing Co. in 1901. Sold to Pabst Brewing Co. in 1983. Pabst sold to Milwaukee-based Miller Brewing Co. in 1999. Last year, Philip Morris finalized sale of Miller Brewing to South African Breweries PLC for $5.6 billion. Miller officials announced plant will close by July 1, 2003.
