Schell acquired the Grain Belt brand from Minnesota Brewing in 2002.
Jerry Gulden, "a proud Schell's drinker", offers this description of the brewery:
really nice grounds and brewing site. they added a new brewhouse and built it back into the hill as to not destroy the original buildings. the grounds, house a beautiful garden. as we were taking a group of visiting Germans last yar, they said it was just like home. the flowers beautify the grounds and leave you feel like your floating through the Cottonwood Valley. the grounds also have deer running wild in a wide fenced in area and the peacocks run wild. A visit of the museum takes you through the history, wwod barrels and there name stamping/burning of the name and the many labels and cn forms. of course I am biased I grew up hiking and camping in the woods surrounding the area and my father would take us to the tap room on weekends, never had to drink outside the house. this was when Warren operated the brewery now his son is and is doing a fine job of it!
It embarrasses me to admit that I still haven't made it up to New Ulm for a Sunday In The Park.
