Notes

Visited: October 5, 2009

Opened: 1991

Annual Production: 2,500 bbl

Contributors: Diane Crawford, Ralph Wells

They renovated a property dating from 1772 to build this place. These are all pretty good beers...the Pilsner and the Weiss (and my knowledge of the styles) improved tremendously in the ten years between my visits. Brewery downstairs behind the bar, fermenters upstairs immediately above. Live music in the corner by the entrance...typical New Orleans. Big place. Lots of seating upstairs and downstairs.

Now this is a copper-colored beer. Actually, it's a bit darker than that. Chocolate malt aroma. Very nice indeed. Porter body with lager flavors. Warming, but alcohol not evident in flavor. Outstanding beer. Blows the others away.

Light yellow, but not too light. Strong hop aroma. They claim "flowery bouquet", but I'd use the word "bitter" instead. Very good body. Carbonation just a little light. Very bitter...definitely too bitter.

Very nice color...a shade darker than Pilsner. Not even close to "copper-colored" like they claim, though. Malty nose. Evident crystal (Vienna?) malt. Nothing very assertive, though. Same "weight" as Pilsner, but hops are better-balanced here. Darker malt works too.
