Mari Kemper tells the story:

Will and Mari Kemper, the originators of Thomas Kemper Beer in Washington state beginning in 1984, have opened their own Chuckanut Brewery & Kitchen in Bellingham, WA. The ten barrel system is specifically engineered by Will Kemper to brew lagers and ales. Currently we have an all organic IPA, Rauch smoked marzen lager, ESB bitter, Munich style Helles Lager, a Vienna lager, and a stout. Beers will rotate through the system and cover about 19 different types with 6 beers on tap at any one given time. The full service "Kitchen" serves food from 11:30 am until late at night. The food includes woodstone pizzas, roasted veggies, entrees, starters, sandwiches, salads/soups, and desserts including a fresh ginger Stout gingerbread cake. We use as many local products and have specials every day and night to take advantage of the freshest foods available. Live music is happening 2-3 times a week.

Chuckanut was named Small Brewing Company of the Year at the 2011 Great American Beer Festival.
