According to Australian correspondent John Stallwood, Kirin took control of Lion Nathan (which owns Swan) in 1998. They still go under the name of Lion Nathan but Kirin has control with 46%. With more Swan history, here's Jacob Sjúrdur Hansen:
Frederick Sherwood establish the original Swan Brewery in 1857 in Sherwood Court, close to Perth. The brewery is leased to Ferguson & Mumme in 1872. In 1908 the Emu Brewery is established in Perth, originally established in 1837 as the Albion Brewery and later changed name to Stoke’s Brewery in 1848. The Swan Brewery aquired it’s major competitor, the Emu Brewery in 1928. Swan bought Kalggorlie Brewing Co. and its Hannan brands in 1945. In 1966 Swan moves all operations to the old Emu Brewery. In 1978 Swan moves to a new modern brewery at Canning Vale, a suburb of Perth. New Zealand beer giant Lion Nathan bought the Swan Brewery in 1992. In 1998 part of Lion Nathan itself got bought by Kirin, which owns about 46%. The Swan Brewery produces local brands Emu and Swan as well as national brands Tooheys and Hahn.
