Stroh purchased G.Heileman in February 1996 for about $275,000,000. The combined company had about ten percent of the US beer market, comparable to third-place Coors. Along with its own product lines such as Augsburger and Northern Plains, Stroh brewed beer under contract for these beer marketing companies:
- August Brewery, Detroit MI
- Boston Beer Company, Boston MA
- Fischer Brewing, Washington DC
- Pete's Brewing Company, Palo Alto CA
Miller and Pabst split up Stroh's assets when Stroh closed down in 1999.

Date: October 17, 1995 (#1229)Package: bottledPlace: Moloka`i Wines and Spirits Unlimited, Kaunakakai HIScore: 10 pointsOverall Impression (1½)
Yellow, moderate carbonation, poor head. American yellow beer aroma. Insipid American yellow beer flavor. Fizzy, too. For the record, Primo Beer ("Registered in the Islands 1905"), widely considered to be a Hawaiian beer, is brewed by Stroh. The Primo Brewing and Malting Co. Ltd. of Kakaako T.H. mentioned on the label doesn't seem to exist even as a contract "brewery".[Edit 2007-12-02: Primo is about to be revived by Keoki Brewing on Kaua'i.]

Golden, low carbonation, moderate head. Malty sweet aroma, slightly spicy. Light, pretty malty, clean sweet finish. As yellow beer goes, it's pretty good.
