Brown, some carbonation, good head. Smoky aroma, some herbal hops. Smooth, smoky, warming. Finishes remarkably clean. Tasted at room temperature, and it tasted great! Alcoholic content is above the state's legal limit, but it's sold on nearby military posts such as Fort Bragg.

    • Date: September 21, 1997 (#2274)
      Package: draught
      Place: at the brewery
      Score: 16 points
      Overall Impression (3)
Red-brown, very low carbonation, moderate head. Smells roasty. Good body, roasty, just sweet enough. Rather bitter at the end.

  • American-Style Pale Ale
    • Date: September 21, 1997 (#2273)
      Package: draught
      Place: at the brewery
      Score: 18 points

Golden, moderate carbonation, big head. Malty aroma. Big body for a light beer. Huge grainy malt flavor, great balance. Some bitterness late.

  • Scottish-Style Export Ale
    5.80% abv.
    • Date: September 21, 1997 (#2275)
      Package: draught
      Place: at the brewery
      Score: 16 points
      Overall Impression (3)
Brown, clear, thick head. Herbal, smoky aroma. Big, roasty, perfect bitter-sweet balance. Very smoky middle through end. Alcohol content is just under North Carolina's 6% limit...but see their High-Test for an exception.
