  Based on the now-forgotten "Zwartbier" style. Deep red, moderate head. Roasty sweet coffee aroma, slightly yeasty. Medium body, mildly fizzy. Lots of roastiness on a smooth malty base. Mild green hop flavor. Reasonably alcoholic.

Big creamy body. Same fresh spicy hop flavor as the aroma. Nice darkish caramel base. Clean spicy finish, with a hint of grapefruit.

Reasonably complex for such a light-bodied beer. Very tasty.

Overall Impression
Deep red, clear, moderate carbonation, big head. Some cold coffee behind the standard "Belgian" nose. Good body, sweet, caramelly, acidic. Big carbonation bite. Lots of clove character...like Franziskaner Dunkel! Doesn't have the warming, alcoholic feeling of a Grimbergen. Surprisingly dry at the end. "Bottled 19 May 97."

Bright red, low carbonation, thick - slightly pink - head. Raspberry aroma. Good body, tart raspberry flavor, but not all that sweet...in fact, it's reasonably malty in the middle, with a bitter, brown, raspberry finish. Thanks to Mike Bodzioch for sending this beer to me!

Intensely tart. Lots of caramel. Sharply earthy. Very Gueuze-like.

Mouthfeel (10)
Very light body. Fairly fizzy. It tastes and feels like a Gueuze with dark Munich malt. Fiercely tart and dry.

Overall Impression (3)
I love Gueuze, I love Munich malt flavors, I love this beer.

INTENSELY tart! Even more tart than the draft version we had earlier tonight. Lots of dark fruit, some dark malt providing the light body, but this is an intensely tart beer.

Maybe some age will mellow it out…?

"Oak-aged beer". Bright deep red, very high carbonation, creamy head. Slightly sour aroma, musty, malty. Medium-light body, caramel malt on top of tart mildly yeasty flavor. Clean finish. Thanks to Steve Olson for the sample!

Earthy. Alcoholic. Tart. Some DMS. Smoky phenolic.

Mouthfeel (10)
Light body, slightly bigger than the standard La Folie. Very fizzy. Dry, but less dry than La Folie, with more caramel malt character. Quite tart — more than La Folie. Black cherries.

Overall Impression (3)
This is a blend of all ten La Folie Foedres, made especially for the Falling Rock Tap House in Denver. The flavors are the same as the standard La Folie, but in better balance. This one is much maltier, and doesn't have the late bitterness. They are both very Gueuze-like, but with more caramel malt.
