In 1901 "Fakse Dampbryggeri” was established in the house of Nikolina and Conrad Nielsen. In the 1970s Faxe had become a major brewery with great exports and in 1989 Faxe merged with “Jyske Bryggerier” (Ceres & Thor). The new brewing group was named “Faxe-Jyske”. In 1992 it was renamed “Bryggerigruppen”. In the 2000 “Albani Bryggerierne” and “Maribo Bryghus” became part of “Bryggerigruppen”. In April 2005 the group was renamed “Royal Unibrew”.
