Overall Impression Dark amber, good head. Malt, smoke and chlorophenols aroma. Pretty phenolic. There's a VERY good beer under here somewhere. Very much like Portland MacTarnahan's. "Whiskey beer" ... sorta like making a beer out of a whiskey mash, no distillation. Filled out a marketing survey yesterday at Buffalo Bill's in exchange for a free pint of this stuff.
Appearance (3) Bright red-brown. High carbonation. Thick head.
Aroma (4) Brown sugar, dark caramel, lots of chocolate.
Mouthfeel (8) Light body, fizzy. Grainy, with some sweet dark caramel. Big grassy hop flavor up front, some bitterness in the middle. Hint of roast. Somewhat astringent.
Overall Impression Red, thick head. Diacetyl aroma, sweet. Tastes sweet, like brown sugar. (Note: this is reportedly an all-malt beer.) Very very drying.
Overall Impression Golden, moderate carbonation, good head. Hint of hop aroma, more than a hint of mercaptans. Good body, good malty flavor...with some corn, maybe? OK bitterness in finish, but kinda sticky at the same time.
Appearance (3) Bright pale golden. Lots of carbonation. Nice thick head.
Aroma (3) Sweet, grainy, with some SO2.
Mouthfeel (10) Very light body. Very fizzy. Sweet grainy malt flavor. Some sulfur. There's a hint of noble hop flavor that's absent from most "light" — or indeed most "industrial" — beers.
Overall Impression (3) This is a rare light beer that actually tastes like beer. Thanks to Charlie Kondek of Hass MS&L for the bottle, shipped in a nifty aluminum carrying case complete with a bottle opener!
Overall Impression Red, ok head, flat. Sweet caramel aroma. Good caramel flavor, "brown" flavors, and lots of alcohol. Thick. Quick bitterness in finish. Got a taste first...the way it SHOULD be!
